French court annuls fine for driver in Muslim veil

I wonder if Muslim women, those obligated to wear these ridiculous and humiliating outfits, ever stop to think that they must do so ONLY because it was men (not women) who invented Islam and wrote the Koran, their so-called “holy book;” which by the way is anything but holy.

Personally, I wonder what religious traditions would be like if it had been women, instead of men, who conjured-up religions. In the case of Islam, would it be men instead of women being covered from head to toe? In terms of Christianity, specifically Catholicism, would men not be allowed into the priesthood; would abortions be allowed under certain circumstances?

When we get right down to it, this world (especially in terms of religious doctrine) would be completely different if women were the dominant gender. TGO

NANTES, France – A French court on Monday annulled a fine given to a woman driver wearing an Islamic face veil, months before a ban on wearing the garments goes into effect.

Traffic police in the western city of Nantes fined 31-year-old Sandrine Mouleres euro22 ($29.22) in April, saying she did not have a clear field of vision, but the court quashed the fine Monday.

Jean-Michel Pollono, Mouleres’ attorney, said the court in Nantes had ruled that “we are in a free country, and as a result, everything that isn’t forbidden is allowed.”

The court decided that the veil “moves with the head and does not hinder visibility,” and therefore does not go against the driving code cited by police, the lawyer added.

French authorities have long wrestled with Muslim practices that they contend do not conform with the country’s values, in particular its secular tradition. France is home to the largest population of Muslims in western Europe, with an estimated 5 million.

The case of Mouleres, who was not present in court, drew media attention because it came amid a heated debate in France over whether veils that cover the face should be banned, but also because Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux accused her companion of polygamy and defrauding the social system by obtaining aid for up to 15 children living under separate roofs.

The husband, Algerian-born Lies Hebbadj, a French citizen, has since been charged with aggravated rape based on complaints from one of his former companions.

In September, the French parliament approved a law banning face-covering Islamic veils in public places including streets. It will go into effect in the spring.

Many Muslims see the legislation as another blow to Islam — France’s No. 2 religion — and fear it could raise levels of Islamophobia in a country where mosques are sporadic targets of hate-fueled attacks.

Proponents of the new law, however, have said it will preserve French values, including secular foundations and women’s rights.

The law sets fines of euro150 ($199) — or citizenship classes, or both — for any women, including tourists, caught covering their face. It also carries much heavier penalties for anyone, such as husbands or brothers, convicted of forcing the veil on a woman.

Christianity and Islam are both responsible for ridiculous rules concerning women, but Islam is more fanatical in that Islamic rules apply to ALL women, whereas Christian (Catholic) rules apply only to women in the church. Islam doesn’t even allow women to have a position within the ranks of the clerics, that’s a sign of just how little women are valued in the Islamic culture.

But wait, Nuns wear their dresses even outside the church. So that is acceptable? What I understand is that this Muslim woman is wearing the dress on her will, when you restrict someone like that, isn’t that violation of freedom of expression?

There is no imposition in Islam, while I agree that often Men impose their will on their woman but nothing like that exists in Turkey or Muslim countries like it

I have a question. Why don’t Christian nuns go out in Miniskirts and open hair?

    • TGO says:

I have an answer: because Christian nuns are affected by religious tradition and nonsense. However, the difference between Islam and Christianity is that while in Christianity (Catholicism) nuns are required to dress in a certain way, in Islam, it is the average woman that is required to dress in a certain way. So, you are comparing apples to oranges.

      Does that answer your question?

      • TGO says:

I want to begin by saying that I’m not defending Christianity in general or Catholicism specifically. If you read through my Blog you will realize just how much I criticize Catholic priests, nuns, etc., all the way up to and including the Pope. So believe me, this is not a Christian against Muslim “thing.” Having said that, there is absolutely no question that Islam has much stricter rules concerning women than Christianity, and it isn’t even close.

When Catholic women decide to become nuns, since they are already adults, they are well aware of the fact that they need to wear that ridiculous outfit in public. If they choose to still become nuns, then that is of their own choosing and not anyone else’s. The same applies to Catholic priests. Muslim women on the other hand, are not members of the clergy and as such would not need to wear those body bags if not for men, who of course wrote the Quran. They wear the burqas because of the society they live in, as well as because they are basically obligated to do so. The Quran, like the Bible, is obsessed with sex and both “holy books” regard women as man’s possession. Refer to two quotes from the Quran below:

“O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the faithful to draw their outergarments (jilbabs) close around themselves; that is better that they will be recognized and not annoyed. And God is ever Forgiving, Gentle.”
        Qur’an Surah/Chapter Al-Ahzab Ayah/Verse 59

“And say to the faithful women to lower their gazes, and to guard their private parts, and not to display their beauty except what is apparent of it, and to extend their headcoverings (khimars) to cover their bosoms (jaybs), and not to display their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent, and not to strike their feet (on the ground) so as to make known what they hide of their adornments. And turn in repentance to Allah together, O you the faithful, in order that you are successful”
Qur’an Sura Nur Chapter: The Light. Verse 31

No one is going to convince me that women, being that they are basically vain by nature, would voluntarily cover themselves from head to toe in those ridiculous outfits, in scorching heat no less, if not obligated to do so; and this is particularly true of young, attractive women. To say that there is no imposition in Islam is to blind oneself to the facts. ALL RELIGIONS HAVE IMPOSITIONS. In fact, religions even try to control people’s thoughts by filling their heads with guilt – especially for doubting their faith, which they are expected to blindly follow.
